I have worked in the Health and Social Care sector for many years and over that period of time I have supported adults on the Autistic Spectrum and mental health concerns. I have always loved working face to face with clients and wanted to take my skills and knowledge to new levels. I began studying to be a counsellor in 2017 and I feel this is definitely the place I want to be.
I have a certificate in Counselling and a Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. While studying for my Diploma, I took a certificate course in Schema Therapy and after completing my Diploma I did a short course in Mindfulness Meditation.
I grew up speaking Spanish as well as English, so I offer both languages as an option for clients.
Being able to speak to a my therapist once a week has been good. I've been able to work through my problems and anxiety.
Wendy provided excellent counselling throughout and provided the necessary tools to deal with my issues. I felt very comfortable with Wendy throughout our sessions and found her very easy to confide in. Despite not being able to attend the practice, we communicated well using Skype, which Wendy gave me the confidence to use.
I have been able to see where I have gone wrong with my relationships. I have been putting myself out too much into maintaining my relationships and not enough into my own mental health and wellbeing. Wendy allowed me to see this using the tools that she provided.
I have found it comfortable to discuss my friends bereavement and have been made aware of my OCD problems, as I was totally unaware of this problem until after a few sessions with my therapist. I have found the awareness of this problem useful, as well as the tools provided for me to work on this issue.
I am happy with the outcome of my therapy. It allowed me to see and talk about the unrealistic expectations I was putting on myself every day, which were causing me a lot of anxiety.
It has been good to talk about certain situations that had been bothering me for a long time. I have learned to be more present and control my negative thoughts through mindfulness meditation, and this has enabled me to sleep better too.
